Week 5 Recap: Surge Stays Hot

By Sophie Tremblay

Week 5 Recap: Surge Stays Hot

The Surge defense put on a clinic Sunday, holding the Volt to just 7 points in a convincing 28-7 victory that keeps their playoff hopes alive. ## Defensive Dominance The Surge came into the game with a simple plan: take away the deep ball and force the Volt into mistakes. It worked to perfection, as they recorded 4 sacks and 2 interceptions while limiting the Volt to just 95 total yards. "We were locked in from the first snap," said linebacker Thomas Roy, who led the team with 8 tackles. "Everyone did their job, and when that happens, we're a really tough defense to score against." ## Offensive Balance While the defense stole the show, the Surge offense was efficient when it mattered. Quarterback Alex Simard completed 18 of 24 passes for 185 yards and 2 touchdowns, while running back Derek Fontaine added 65 rushing yards and a score. ## Playoff Implications With the win, the Surge improve to 2-4 and keep their slim playoff hopes alive. They'll need to win their remaining games and get some help, but stranger things have happened in Montreal D1. ## Up Next The Surge face the Flash next week in a must-win game. A loss would eliminate them from playoff contention, while a win would set up a dramatic final week of the regular season.
