Thunder Clinches Top Seed with Dominant Win

By Marc Leblanc

The Thunder have officially locked up the top seed in the Montreal D1 playoffs after a dominant 35-14 victory over the Surge on Sunday afternoon at Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard. Quarterback Jean-François Dupuis led the charge with four touchdown passes, connecting with receivers Antoine Bergeron and Samuel Côté for two scores each. The Thunder's offense moved the ball at will, converting on 8 of 10 third-down attempts and controlling time of possession throughout the game. "We came out with a purpose today," said Dupuis after the game. "Everyone executed their assignments, and when we do that, we're really hard to stop." The Thunder defense was equally impressive, forcing three turnovers including two interceptions by cornerback David Nguyen. The Surge, who entered the game with playoff aspirations of their own, struggled to find any rhythm against the Thunder's aggressive pass rush. With the win, the Thunder improve to 5-1 on the season and have now won five consecutive games since their Week 1 loss to the Lightning. They'll look to carry this momentum into the playoffs, where they'll have home-field advantage throughout. The Thunder will close out the regular season next week against the Lightning in a preview of what could be a playoff matchup.
