Player Spotlight: Thunder QB Jean-François Dupuis
By Marc Leblanc
Jean-François Dupuis doesn't look like your typical flag football quarterback. At 5'9" and 165 pounds, he's not the tallest player on the field. But what he lacks in size, he more than makes up for in football IQ and a quick release that has made him the most dangerous passer in Montreal D1. **How did you get started in flag football?** "I played tackle football in CEGEP, but after school I didn't want to stop competing. A friend invited me to join his flag team about four years ago, and I was hooked immediately. The game moves so fast, and you have to make decisions in a split second." **What's the key to your success this season?** "It's all about preparation. I spend hours watching film of opposing defenses, looking for tendencies. When I step on the field, I usually know what coverage they're going to run before the snap. That gives me a huge advantage." **Tell us about your chemistry with Antoine Bergeron.** "Antoine and I have been playing together for three years now. At this point, it's almost telepathic. He knows when I'm going to throw it before I do. That trust allows us to take chances that other quarterback-receiver duos can't." **What are your goals for the playoffs?** "Championship or bust. We've been building toward this for two seasons, and this is the best team I've ever been on. Everyone is locked in, and we believe we can beat anyone when we're playing our best football." The Thunder will need Dupuis at his best if they're going to capture the D1 title, but based on his performance this season, there's no reason to doubt him.
